Stress may depress farmed salmon immune systems, research shows

The combination of viral infections and stressful handling are associated with mortality, a Norwegian Veterinary Institute researcher told IntraFish.

"The findings indicate that red blood cells can be used to find out how stressed the fish have been, and perhaps learn more about why the combination of stressful treatment and common viral infections causes mortality in farmed salmon," Veterinary Institute Senior Researcher Maria Dahle said.
