Norway-based salmon giant SalMar has received its 600 metric ton floating closed-containment farming system, known as the Marine Donut.

Norway-based thermoplastics firm Bluegreen and SalMar signed a contract last year to develop the closed-containment system.

The Marine Donut left its original site in Bamble in southern Norway last Friday and travelled 510 nautical miles to reach SalMar's site in the Romsdals fjord.

Ultimately, the site will be filled it with 200,000 salmon weighing approximately 2.5 kilos, where they will grow until they are harvested at around 5.5
