Silicon Valley-based alternative feed ingredient supplier NovoNutrients has ramped up its hiring in recent months as it continues to work on ways of turning industrial waste into viable fish food.

Over the past year, the company made four new hires with the goal of scaling"from a laboratory scale to demonstration scale," NovoNutrients Marketing Manager Max Johansen told IntraFish.

NovoNutrients makes protein-rich aquatic and animal feed ingredients from waste carbon dioxide, hydrogen and single-cell bacteria. While the company is not selling the product on a commercial scale, in 2020 Skretting began testing NovoNutrients' product at its aquaculture research center in Norway.
