Norwegian salmon farmer Nova Sea is installing hybrid engines supplied by Fjord Maritime on four of its feed barges. It also order electric boats as a larger commitment to "green feeding."

The system consists of generators, batteries, electric motors and control systems to optimize and reduce the use of diesel generators.

Nova Sea expects to save around 150,000 liters of diesel per year through this solution.

"The benefits of Fjord Hybrid on the feed fleet are the significant reduction in fuel consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and a healthier working environment for employees," Nova Sea CEO Tom Eirik Aasjord said.
