New Zealand seafood company Sanford is opening a new NZD 20 million (€12 million/$12.5 million) marine extracts plant to double its greenshell mussel powder production and explore other marine extract properties that could be commercialized by the company.

The first focus of the Bioactives Center, in Blenheim, Marlborough at the very northern tip of New Zealand's south island, is to take products the company already knows have beneficial properties, such as its greenshell mussel powder. Sanford already produces and sells the powder, which has proven anti-inflammatory and joint health benefits.
