Long before the pandemic distressed many supply chains, blockchain was slowly trickling its way into the Norwegian farmed salmon industry to boost both traceability and transparency.

However, it wasn't until June for a massive technological partnership to develop between the Norwegian Seafood Association (Sjotmatbedriftene), US tech giant IBM and Nordic IT firm Atea as the industry looks for a competitive and premium edge.

Two drivers are behind the new project which is expected to go live by September and cover the entire salmon supply chain, Atea CEO Steinar Sonsteby told IntraFish.
