China's offshore fish farms sail ahead with state support

With six ships on the water, China is leaving the West behind when it comes to farming fish on seaborne vessels. One Dutch company, though, is watching developments closely and has ambitions of its own.

"The vast potential for offshore aquaculture growth [in China] now lies in the deep and far seas," said Pan Ocean Aquaculture Director Ma Kun. The Guoxin No.1– 2-1/2-2 has a farming volume of 100,000 cubic meters and is one of six Chinese fish-farming vessels in operation.
