Hong Kong-based Avant Meats is currently developing a cell-based fish fillet for the Chinese market. Avant is the first cultivated meat technology company in China, and the third one in Asia.

The company has so far received $23 million (€19.5 million) from investors, such as protein alternatives venture capital fund Lever VC, according to SCMP news. In 2019, the company had its first public taste test of its cultured fish maw, which is a seafood delicacy in Asia. It hopes to launch this in two years.
