NOAA has new tool to fight seafood import fraud

During a pilot operation in November, NOAA officers used the device to examine more than 40 tons of seafood. The operation led to the identification of over 27 tons of illegally harvested fish.

The new PCR device, which uses genetic markers to quickly identify species, can produce results within hours, streamlining the enforcement process.
