Mowi Scotland achieved certification from the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) for four of its seawater salmon farms this month, bringing its total of ASC certified farms to eight.

Mowi’s seawater farms at Loch Linnhe, Gorsten, Marulaig Bay and Stulaigh join its Loch Leven site in achieving ASC certification, complimenting previous certification of the company’s freshwater rearing sites.

Mowi Scotland is the only aquaculture company in the United Kingdom to achieve this certification.

Mowi has committed to achieving 100-percent ASC certification for all its sites around the world.

All audits were conducted remotely because of the coronavirus pandemic, with the on-site inspections done via video link.

"We can now push ahead to a productive 2021 and 2022," said Sam Clegg, certification manager at Mowi Scotland. "We hope to increase our total of certified sites to 21 by early 2022."

More than 10 percent of Mowi Scotland’s total production is now from ASC-accredited sites and the company hopes that this will increase to 30 percent over the next 12-18 months.
