Herman Wisse, executive director of the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) will leave the organization in March after having led the seafood certification group for the past decade.

A search for a replacement is underway.

"Without the past 10 years of Herman's dedication, service, and vision, GSSI would not be where it is today. It is with heavy hearts and understanding that we see him stepping down," the GSSI executive team said in an announcement.

"GSSI is stronger than ever and ready for the next step in its journey. I am beyond proud of the GSSI team and what we have achieved together," Wisse said.

GSSI is a global group that has established a benchmark for seafood certification schemes. It was put together by the seafood industry, governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations with the aim of building confidence in certified seafood.
