In the same month Bakkafrost announced the purchase of a cargo plane to fly its salmon to the US market, fellow Faroese salmon farmer Hiddenfjord is calling on the industry to stop flying product altogether, which company CEO Atli Gregersen describes as both unnecessary and avoidable.

Last year, Hiddenfjord changed to using ocean freight to curb its carbon dioxide (CO₂) footprint, reducing overseas transportation emissions by 94 percent since Oct. 10, 2020.

The company uses Icelandic transportation firm Eimskip and lands its fish in Portland, Maine, on the US East Coast.
