Norwegian salmon farmer Kvaroy Arctic is the first-ever finfish farmer to earn the Fair Trade USA mark for all its products sold in the US market.

The company's various processors, including Vega Salmon, Het Urker, Eat Salmon of Norway and Santa Barbara Smokehouse, will also carry the Fair Trade USA certification label.

Through the Fair Trade USA program, Kvaroy will pay an extra sum to its farmers and workers to support community development projects and education.

Fair Trade USA audits and certifies transactions between US-based firms and its international suppliers, making sure both farmers and workers producing the certified products are paid fair prices, work in safe conditions, protect the environment and receive community development funds to empower their communities.

In October 2018, Fair Trade Fair USA and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) signed a memorandum of understanding to pilot Fair Trade USA’s requirements in some ASC-certified fish farms.

Kvaroy first launched its products in the United States exactly one year ago and is now available at Pod Foods, FultonFishMarket.com, Cherry Hill Market, Cox Farms Market, Acorn Acres, and Whole Foods Market US locations.
