Canada-based Clearwater Seafoods has decided to let go of its Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for its eastern Canadian lobster fishery, calling it "a voluntary decision driven by business considerations," reports the CBC.

In 2019 the company held onto the seafood certification, despite being found guilty of violations of Atlantic fisheries regulations in the fall of 2018.

In a 61-page audit report released last year, the MSC concluded the company could keep its certification but imposed some new conditions related to the certification.
