Danish feed giant BioMar broke a sustainability milestone with a five-year average fish-in-fish-out (FIFO) ratio below 1:1, thanks to including more alternative feed ingredients and trimmings in the diets it produces for the aquaculture industry.
"To achieve the FIFO goals consistently is a challenge," BioMar CEO Carlos Diaz told IntraFish.
"Sometimes we have to compromise on results, but when results and sustainability are going in the same direction then it pays off to continue in what you believe."
