Norway-based salmon farming giant Mowi has reached a milestone in its Canada salmon farming operations, with all of the sites achieving Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification.

Mowi finalized certification for its sites in Sheep Pass and Cougar Bay in the Klemtu region of British Columbia, bringing the entire region into ASC certification.

Chief Roxanne Robinson and Councillor Isaiah Robinson of the Kitasoo/Xai'xai Nation, which partners with Mowi on the site, praised the move.

In 2015, Mowi Canada West became the first region in North America to certify a netpen salmon farm, in Marsh Bay, to the ASC standard.

Mowi harvests around 45,000 metric tons of salmon at its BC operations.
