The Southern Shrimp Alliance (SSA), a coalition of US shrimp fishing interests, is calling for a US consumer boycott of Indian shrimp after nearly half the shrimp refused entry into the United States in 2022 for banned antibiotics originated in India.

Of the 60 entry line refusals last year, 29 involved shrimp sourced from India, while there 11 were from Thailand,10 from Bangladesh and three each from Vietnam and Hong Kong, according to by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
