Honduran shrimp producers are aiming for another strong year of production in 2022 after favorable weather conditions last year lifted output to an 11-year high.

Producers are targeting a near 14 percent increase in production this year to 142 million pounds, after reaching 125 million pounds in 2021.

Local media cited optimum salinity levels for the favorable growth of shrimp larvae.

Despite fallout from hurricanes and the global COVID-19 pandemic, Honduran producers had their best year in a decade in 2020.
