Executives at genetically modified (GM) salmon producer AquaBounty are mulling moves into recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) farmed shrimp production.

As part of future expansion plans, the company's RAS expertise is transferable to other species, AquaBounty President and CEO Sylvia Wulf said during an investor day presentation on Thursday, noting that the company has been looking at the shrimp sector as a potential area of expansion.

More than 20 years ago AquaBounty started out working with shrimp before turning its focus to salmon.
