Brazilian shrimp producers are eyeing a 150,000-metric-ton production target for 2022, bolstered by the availability of financing and the development of new markets.

Production reached 112,000 metric tons in 2020, and producers had hoped to reach the 150,000-metric-ton mark in 2021 but fell short at 120,000 metric tons.

This year, companies are eyeing developing markets in the Middle East, particularly the United Arab Emirates, as well as in Brazil itself.

For Itamar Rocha, president of producers' trade body ABCC, it's a matter of playing to Brazil's strengths in export markets.
