The $60 million (€50.3 million) in annual costs associated with protecting Ecuadorian shrimp producers from robberies and other violence should be paid by the South American nation's government.

That's the view of Jose Antonio Camposano, president of the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA), a trade association representing Ecuador's shrimp producers.

"It's an amount that should be assumed by the state to provide safety for those involved in aquaculture," Camposano said in a post published on his Twitter page.
