Ecuadorian shrimp exports reached an all-time monthly high in June for the second consecutive month, helped by rebounding shipments to China, and despite a slower pace of growth in the US and European markets.

Global shipments totaled 209.5 million pounds in June, a 37 percent increase over the same month last year, and edging past the 208.7 million pounds record set just a month earlier.

Exports to China came in at 105.6 million pounds, 45 percent higher than the same month last year.

With seafood sales in the United States softening as the public reduces spending amid soaring living costs, exports there were up five percent from a year ago to 38.3 million pounds.

Exports to Europe were also up five percent to 37.6 million pounds.

Notably, shipments to Spain rose 42 percent from a year earlier to 14.6 million pounds, while exports to Italy climbed 30 percent to 5.4 million pounds.

However, shipments to France dropped 46 percent to 5.9 million pounds.

Prior to the invasion of Ukraine by President Vladimir Putin's forces in February, Russia was a rising star for Ecuadorian exports, but shipments have dropped 48 percent in the first six months of the year to 12.5 million pounds.

In the first six months of this year, Ecuador's global shipments were up 33 percent from a year earlier to 1.13 billion pounds.
