Land-based recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) shrimp producer American Mariculture has succeeded in stocking a nursery tank with shrimp just a week after a devastating hurricane tore through its Pine Island site in Florida.

The catastrophic weather event has left the business reliant on electricity generators for at least another week.

Although the company's property and installations escaped with relatively minor damage, at first the situation looked much worse after the storm knocked out a road connecting to the island, fueling expectations it would take months to repair as authorities considered declaring the island closed to habitation.
