New plastic packaging tax could deal another hefty cost blow to UK seafood businesses

Extra administrative costs from the tax, which is aimed at encouraging the use of more recyclable materials, are expected to average £400,000 for each business, research carried out by UK tax authorities shows.

The new tax, charged at £200 (€235/$252) per metric ton, took effect on April 1. It is aimed at encouraging companies to increase the amount of recyclable plastic material used in their packaging.
