Container freight rates continue to slide during what should be the busiest time of the year.

While this is fuelling worries in the shipping industry that the peak season traditionally starting in July may prove a damp squib, this appears to be better news for the seafood industry.

Following the onset of the pandemic more than two years ago, the seafood industry and many others suffered from soaring shipping rates and reduced shipping options, battling for space aboard vessels.

Concern in the shipping industry comes amid confusion over whether the falling rates are due to an easing of demand, an unwinding of supply, or both.
