Land-based aquaculture companies are not directly impacted by the Norwegian government's proposal to impose a new 40 percent tax on salmon farmers, however they are equally unhappy with the decision, warning it will bring instability to the wider sector.

"We are against what the politicians did in every aspect," land-based salmon farmer Salmon Evolution CEO Hakon Andre Berg said during the IntraFish Investor Forum in London Thursday.

The salmon farming industry needs stability and predictability, and even though the land-based sector is not impacted by higher taxes "a level of uncertainty has now been introduced in Norway, and this is not good for the overall industry," Berg argued.
