The third quarter produced a mixed bag of results for leading salmon producers as they struggled to emerge from the global COVID-19 pandemic and faced down a host of regional biological challenges.

While some salmon farmers benefitted from recoveries in foodservice and retail, others struggled with high operating costs, disease and other production challenges that dragged numbers into the red.

Earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) per kilo -- one of the key markers for the success of a salmon farming company -- were wildly different, with some companies posting eye-popping figures.
