Trident Seafoods will not operate its salmon processing plant in Wrangell, Alaska, this coming season, Trident's Stefanie Moreland told the Wrangell Sentinel newspaper on Thursday.

Early projections forecast a weak salmon run in Southeast Alaska this season, a factor that drove Trident's decision to keep the plant closed, she said. The company will continue operations out of its Ketchikan and Petersburg plants.

There is no doubt that times are tough for many Alaska salmon processors.
