An exclusion zone has been placed around a sunken salmon feed barge off Portree on Skye, on the west coast of Scotland, after its rotting cargo started to release toxic gases.

The vessel was being used by Faroese salmon farming company Bakkafrost when it sank on the outskirts of Portree harbor last November during Storm Arwen.

According to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), fuel and oil were originally removed from the barge in December 2021. Bakkafrost has been working on a recovery plan since the sinking.
