An emergency meeting between union representatives and management at Norway salmon farming giant Leroy Seafood took place last week following comments the government's proposed salmon tax could lead to large layoffs at the company.

Bjarne Kristiansen, spokesman for the Norwegian Food and Allied Workers Union (NNN) branch in Leroy, said that while nothing was decided at the meeting, the company confirmed there could be a large number of redundancies in Leroy's processing division.

"We're not talking 10 or 20, but several hundred, and the same will probably happen in other companies," Kristiansen told IntraFish.
