Norway-based Ecofisk has been granted a production license to produce 40,000 metric tons of land-based salmon in its recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility in Rogaland, CEO Bjorn Inge Staalesen told IntraFish.

"The timing for land-based is correct now and we are getting there," said Staalesen, who has so far been self-funding the project alongside six fellow founders, who come from a diverse background in aquaculture and fisheries, including COO Rustan Lindqvist, who was director of farm operations for US-based Whole Oceans.
