Strong demand during Lent and reduced supply from Chile will likely push up farmed salmon prices in the United States early in the year, market watchers are forecasting.

Salmon market sources saidprices for fresh D-trim fillets FOB Miami are currently selling for between $6.20-$6.25 (€5.45-€5.49) per pound, following steady demand during the Christmas season.

One market source said while demand has been firm despite the emergence of the omicron COVID-19 variant in the last few weeks, producers in Chile have held back exports somewhat to balance out lower foodservice orders.
