Icelandic giant Samherji is planning to enlarge its existing land-based salmon and char farming operation in Oxarfjordur, on the northeastern side of the island nation, increasing production at the site to 3,000 metric tons per year.

The project is estimated to cost around ISK 1.5 billion (€10 million/$11.6 million), the company said, and is expected to take one year to complete.

Samherji has already purchased the required land for the expansion.
