Recent algal bloom incidents that wiped out nearly 3 percent of Salmon Camanchaca’s salmon biomass are nowhere near the same scale as the 2016 episodes that financially damaged the Chilean industry, the head of the company said.

“This is a small algal bloom. It is nothing like the algal blooms of 2016,” Salmones Camanchaca CEO Ricardo Garcia told IntraFish.

Back then, deadly algal blooms in Chile’s Los Lagos region resulted in the loss of 25 percent of Camanchaca’s annual salmon production.
