Canada Fisheries Minister Joyce Murray now has less than a month to decide the fate of all remaining 79 federal salmon farm site licenses in British Columbia (BC), with tenures scheduled to expire on June 30.

The license renewal process in BC will determine the fate of the remaining 4,700 workers and $1.2 billion (€1.1 billion) in economic activity generated by the salmon farming sector in BC, as well as the additional $200 million (€187 million) in economic activity and 900 jobs across the country, according the BC Salmon Farming Association (BCSFA).
