Norwegian salmon farming giant Mowi is fighting a NOK 10 million (€970,000/$1.1 million) fine for exceeding sea lice limits at two sites, arguing that the violations are no longer subject to the fines given the length of time since they occurred.

The company exceeded sea lice limits at its Sandvika and Ronstad facilities in the Volda municipality in Western Norway in September and October 2019.

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority fined the company a daily fee of about NOK 300,000 (€29,000/$30,500) per day for Ronstad and NOK 400,000 (€39,000/$40,700) per day for Sandvika.
