Oslo-listed salmon producer SalMar is considering setting up offshore aquaculture operations overseas in places such as the United States, South America, Iceland and New Zealand -- but only if everything goes according to plan in Norway.

The salmon farmer is ramping up endeavors in the field of offshore fish farming with the creation of a new role, CFO and director of strategy at the company's wholly-owned offshore company SalMar Ocean.

"First and foremost, we are focusing on areas in Norway," said Olav-Andreas Ervik, SalMar's head of offshore investment, told IntraFish.
