Norwegian research organization Sintef Ocean, in partnership with Norway-based salmon giant SalMar, has been conducting research on lice for many years, and it now believes it has found a solution for controlling lice using light.

In the experiment, researchers exposed the lice to different types of light to see which they are most attracted to and how quickly they migrate towards a preferred light source.

Salmon lice live on the fish's slimy layers, and this layer protects the fish against viruses and bacteria, hence a large lice infestation can cause reduced resistance to disease.
