Lawyers representing a group of companies alleging Norwegian salmon farming giants conspired to fix prices on the US market said in a filing Wednesday the parties reached a $33 million (€34 million) settlement.

The plaintiffs, which represent 400,000 "indirect purchasers" of salmon, asked a US District Court in Florida to approve the settlement, bringing a close to one chapter in the long-ranging class action lawsuit against Mowi, Leroy Seafood, SalMar, Cermaq and Grieg Seafood.

"The risk and cost of years of litigation before trial, and the possibility of subsequent years of appeals, weigh heavily in favor of finding that the settlement is adequate," lawyers for the salmon buyers said in the motion.
