Norwegian producer Bjoroya has suffered a salmon escape from its farm in Flatanger, in the north west of the country.
So far, 342 fish fish weighing six kilograms each have been recovered but the extent of the escape, which happened due to an incorrect screw fitting performed at Easter, will only be made clear at the end of the month when the harvesting of the cage is complete.
The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries is asking for help from the public in catching the escaped fish in the area, but emphasizes that fishing is not open to the public.
Bjoroya is a family business ,with around five million salmon in the sea. Between its nine licenses, the company produced approximately 12,000 metric tons of salmon worth NOK 500 million in 2018. The company has 55 permanent employees and farms on five sites, according to the company's website.
