The Norwegian salmon industry has rejected the government's proposal to establish an independent body to determine so called "standard pricing" as a basis for a new ground rent tax on salmon farms.

Since the proposal was outlined on Nov. 18 there has been much discontent among the salmon farming community.

The current tax proposal, which would hike taxes on producers by 40 percent, is based on a "standard price," using the average market prices for salmon on the Nasdaq exchange, and not what producers actually achieve in terms of selling price.
