Mowi will harvest 46,003 salmon at a Newfoundland and Labrador farming site after tests confirmed positive samples of the infectious salmon anemia (ISA) virus, the company said Thursday.

The infection was detected in July and confirmed Wednesday during routine sampling at its Little Burdock Cove site in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mowi is making plans to remove the fish in the near future, it said Thursday. The fish average 2.7 kilograms. When fish are over 2 kilograms, they are generally harvested for commercial use, Mowi Communications Director Ian Roberts told IntraFish.
