Salmon farming giant Mowi reports escape in Northern Norway

Mowi, the world's largest salmon farming company, reported a salmon escape from a Northern Norway site on June 16.

The escape, in its Nordland region operation, was due to a hole -- 1 meter by 1 meter -- in one of the nets, according to the Directorate of Fisheries.

The hole was immediately sealed when discovered by divers, and Mowi has begun the recovery process.

So far the indications are this is "fortunately a very limited escape," Eivind Naevdal-Bolstad, communications manager at Mowi, told IntraFish.
