Mowi will remove 188,000 salmon at a Newfoundland and Labrador site after the group found positive samples of the infectious salmon anemia (ISA) virus, the company said Wednesday.

The infection was detected and confirmed during routine sampling at its Chaleur Bay site in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The company is currently making plans to depopulate the affected salmon. The fish average 1.5 kilograms.

In March, Mowi euthanized more than 2 million juvenile salmon at a different Mowi Newfoundland and Labrador site after the group found positive samples of the infectious salmon anemia (ISA) virus.
