The presence of algal blooms is being blamed for Mowi Chile's recent loss of around 20,000 fish weighing an average of 1 kilogram each.

Chilean aquaculture and fisheries agency Sernapesca inspected the site on April 17, and determined Chaetoceros cryophilus and Cochlodinium algal blooms were present.

The incident at the Pulelo production center, in Chile's northern Chiloe area in the Los Lagos region, was reported to Sernapesca two days earlier.
