A closed-containment salmon farming project in the state of Maine is facing at least a six-month delay after voters in the city of Gouldsboro voted to support a moratorium on the project plans while regulators do a more thorough analysis of the impact.

American Aquafarms, which is planning a 30,000 metric-ton closed-containment salmon farming project in Maine that could begin production as early as next year, will undergo increased scrutiny from the Gouldsboro Planning Board, which will delay any permitting, according to the Bangor Daily News.
