Japanese land-based farmer NEC Networks and System Integration Corporation (NESIC) Land Aquaculture held the completion ceremony for its Fuji-Keigawa factory earlier this month.

The facility located in Yamanshi prefecture in central Honshu, is the group's first large-scale commercial facility.

The company aims to produce approximately 500 metric tons of trout per year using RAS technology. The first batch are expected to enter the facility in the new year, with shipping set to start in Aug. of next year.

The company hopes to integrate its own digital technology into the production process to lend it a competitive edge over its rivals, it said.
