Per Grieg-backed land-based salmon company Proximar Seafood put its first eggs into its hatchery in Oyama, Japan on Friday, Oct. 28.

Around 125,000 eggs supplied by Benchmark Genetics and its Icelandic StofnFiskur breeding program were inserted into tanks. The eggs are especially suited to growing in land-based facilities and have been tested at AquaMaof’s R&D facility in Poland.

“After meticulous preparations, it is wonderful to finally initiate production," said Proximar COO and ex-Atlantic Sapphire executive Dharma Rajeswaran. "The team is ready, the facility is perfect, and we have everything we need to provide ideal hatching and growth conditions.”
