Iceland’s salmon farming industry may never be able to churn out the volumes of fish Norway, Chile and other salmon farming nations do, but the country's farmers are betting they can gain the upper hand in the market when it comes to quality.

Though Iceland remains a small player, with an annual production of just 46,000 metric tons last year, some estimates put the capacity for conventional net-pen salmon production at over three times that volume.
