Norway-based salmon farming company Grieg Seafood is moving forward to expand salmon operations in British Columbia province, amid a governmental push to remove nearby netpen farming in the province in the next few years.

The Tlowitsis First Nation and Grieg Seafood BC submitted a joint application on June 24 to the province's regulators for an additional salmon farm in the Tlowitsis Nation’s traditional territory of Clio Channel.

The Tlowitsis are a British Columbia First Nation of 450 registered members. Its traditional territories span the coastal area of Northern Vancouver Island, Johnstone Strait and adjacent mainland inlets.
